Mitch McConnell, born in 1942, is the senior United States Senator from Kentucky, serving since 1985. A Republican, he has held key leadership roles, including Senate Majority Leader from 2015 to 2021 and Minority Leader since 2021, following his tenure as Minority Leader from 2007 to 2015. He is the longest-serving Senate party leader in U.S. history. Prior to the Senate, McConnell served as Jefferson County Judge/Executive and Deputy Assistant Attorney General under President Ford. In February 2024, he announced he will step down as Republican leader at the end of 2024 but continue as senator until 2027.
